Do you have experience in education?  Would you like to work for an educational institution . . . from home?  Well, you are in luck my friend.

Kaplan, Inc. is a well-known educational company and has many positions that are virtual/remote.

Kaplan Inc. was the Test Prep king when I was in high school.  They had all this classes to prep you for the SATs.  Then they began test prep classes for other well-known tests and then they began to offer these classes online.  Now, Kaplan offers:
  • Online and campus based Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
  • Professional education for finance, securities, real estate, insurance certifications.
  • And tutoring and academic support for kids.
They have world-wide reach and many positions to fill.

When you go to their Career Webpage, make sure to highlight "Nationwide" in the STATE selection column or type in "virtual" or "remote" in the Keyword slot.  You will receive about a couple of dozen jobs that allow you the freedom to work for a great company, but from your own office!  Cool huh?

If you want to view all the companies that I have found that offer telecommuting jobs, you should visit my post: Telecommuting Companies Round-Up.

Dancing in the Rain

Those who dance are considered insane by those
who can not hear the music
~ George Carlin

My grandmother would often say:

If you find yourself having a wonderful time running with the herd - enjoy it now, because soon you'll be falling over the cliff.

She's from Texas, can you tell?

I guess this was her way of saying what all parents say to their kids at one time or another, "Who are they?  Just because "they" jumped off the bridge would you jump too?" In both these cases, with both these saying my grandmother and your parents were right.  Doing what everyone else does will never be the successful path to your dreams.  It's when you venture out of the norm and do the thing that most folks think is "crazy" that you get something . . . if not your dream . .  if not success, then at least a unique experience!

I think this is what I like about old men with amazing stories.  Have you ever sat down and really talked to an older man or woman, say around 80 or 90?  They always have these amazing, crazy but utterly entertaining stories that are sometimes impossible to believe.  And whether you believe the stories or not, the best ones always start out with the main person, "the hero" doing something out of the ordinary, unique, crazy, foolish, incomprehensible.  Yet, at the end of the story, that person has experienced a grand, unforgettable journey.

I think that was the charm of the movie Forrest Gump.  He saw the world differently from everyone else and reacted to things differently, so it put him in situations that allowed him to experience grand adventures and do things that people could only dream about.  Believe it or not, there are Forrest Gumps in this world -- people who take what we would call "normal situations" and build them into grand journeys that helps them grow in unimaginable ways, that teaches them things we rarely get to learn, and allow them to be the most interesting of people.

Don't you want to be an interesting person?  Well, to do become interesting people, we have to change our minds or perspective.  In everything we do, we have to find some love, some creativity, some drive . . . to focus and progress toward our dream.

For example: A dead end job doesn't have to be a dead end,  if you have a dream that you are ready put energy into.  A dead end job could help you find contacts and networking opportunities that will help you fulfill your dream.  Look around you, what can your job do right now to help you get closer to your goals and dreams?  What can the people around you do to help you gain your dreams and goals?  What can you do, right now, that can help you get a tiny bit closer to your dreams and goals.

Do something today that will be the beginning of your grand adventure!

Doing what everyone else does, thinking the way everyone else does will never give you grand and unforgettable stories to tell your friends and family.  The storms . . . the obstacles . . . the challenges will always be there vying for your attention, trying with all its might to take you away from your dreams and goals.  Don't let that storm win! Because, life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

Slow Progress and Instantaneous Results

I am very hard on myself.  I get these really great ideas and they appear complete and beautiful into my brain.  I sooooo want to be like Samantha of Bewitched and have them come to life right then and there.  And why shouldn't my ideas come to fruition whole and complete, instantaneously?

This attitude that I have for instant gratification is cute . . . but detrimental to me.  Because I can get so frustrated with "process" of making a dream come true that I just tend to quit in the middle of projects or not begin the process of making my dreams come true at all.

Again, I must learn the hard way that . . .guess what? Slow progress is STILL PROGRESS!

Being hard on yourself, being frustrated with life because it constantly gets in the way of your dreams, wanting instant gratification,  is just plain stupid.  Yeah you heard me, it's stupid.  Slow progress means that you are still going in the direction that you'd like, which is the true goal

Stop for a minute.  Listen to what I'm saying, don't just read it quickly.  Listen.  The true goal in life is not getting what you want, not getting what you think will make you happy.  The true goal in life is having the freedom to go in the direction that you'd like, to work toward your goal, to enjoy the journey, the process of obtaining your goal.  It's the journey stupid!

Now, you can go back to reading quickly.

Bigger and faster can be seductive, but here is what you get out of slow progress.

1.  When we go slower we can act in integrity (true to yourself).  Basically, we can do things the way that you want to do it, the way that gives you the most joy and happiness.  In essence, it allows you to achieve your goals and sleep easy at night.

2.  You can actually think while you progress.  You can actually ask questions and actually learn. You can (wait for it) enjoy the journey to success, rather than finding the road to success exhausting.

3.  Progressing slowly will allow you to adapt to unexpected obstacles and find good solutions to those challenges, much more easily.

4.  (So important I will repeat) It's God's way of letting you "enjoy the view" and appreciate and value the journey which is an added gift. How wonderful is it to enjoy all the wonderful things during the journey and enjoy the wonderful gift of having your ultimate goal.

This post is dedicated to all the people like me who get frustrated because life gets in the way and makes our progression move at a snail's pace.  It'll be alright.  Keep going. No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn't trying.
