Money is everywhere! Over 50 ways to make quick, extra income. (Updated in 2019!)

When I talk to my friends about financial independence and/or opening a business, I often get these two excuses:  

“I have a full time job already; I don’t have time for a second job” 

or 

“I have NO money.  I don’t even have the money to purchase a business license – there is no way I can begin a business on the side.”

But that’s the great thing about 2013, you don’t have to take a traditional moonlighting job or make a huge financial commitment like starting a business to make extra money to achieve your goals.  There are so many ways to make money these days, especially if you have access to a computer or a tablet and WIFI service.  In fact, there are many ways to make extra income and all you need is time, patience and a willingness to make a few changes in your life.

The key to financial independence is to develop a plan that will gain your independence.  You realize already that the things you are doing are not working for you.  You have a full-time job, but you are barely making ends meet.  Or you have several part-time jobs but no benefits for you and your family.  Or you’ve been looking for a job and the economy is just not working for you.  Or you are in a black hole of debt with seeming no foot-holds to get you out of that dark hole and it feels like you are going to be a slave to it forever.  These common financial situations or a combination of them often causes one to fall into a state of hopelessness and helplessness – but there is a way out.  I know that when you are mired in such situations it looks like money is scarce but may I venture to say . . . money is plentiful and it is all around you.  You just have tap into it and take the correct steps to change your life and your life’s circumstances.

Let’s look at the steps:

• Set an ultimate goal that will help you gain a better financial footing;
• Make a list of the minimum things you need to begin working on your goal (wish list);
•  Make extra money to  fund the items on your wish list.

The key to success is to make extra money with a goal in mind.  

This is very important -- otherwise you become like me, caught in a hamster-wheel of life, where situations keep draining any extra or new money you earn.  Simply put, if you don’t have a clear, concrete idea of what you are working toward anything that comes up will set you back.  

Okay, let’s follow the steps above:

Set and express your goal:

Example: I want to open a social media consulting business, where I will help small businesses and organizations in my community develop and expose their brand to a wide audience. Ultimately, I would like to expand this company to not only allow me to freely do what I love, but expand the business to hire other love social media professionals.

Great goal right?  

What resources do I need to begin my business?

Computer Laptop            $600 to $1700
WIFI (for the year)          $600                                      
Smartphone (one year)    $500                                      
Business License/Fees      $150                                      
Business Cards                 $50

TOTAL                            $1900 - $2,800

Great, now I know what I want to do and what I need to begin – but the big problem is: I don’t have any funds, equipment or resources to open this business.  I have exactly $0.00 to put toward my goal.  So how do I raise funds for this?

Well, I am in luck because if I just open my eyes and look around.  Money is everywhere! And there are many opportunities out there that will help me make extra income. If I get to work, within a matter of a few months, I will be able to quickly make the money I need to purchase a laptop, afford my WIFI, pay my business fees and get me started.

If you have some work experience and you want to work for an international computer company, you should take a look at DELL.  They are very open to the telecommuting/remote worker and often have dozens of jobs to choose from.

Click on SEARCH JOBS>
Under STATE/PROVINCE select "Remote Field Satellite" or "ANYWHERE"

I have decided to change the direction of my little blog Telecommuting Millionaire.  

Before this date (January 2, 2013), this blog outlined my attempts at millionaire status.  But life got in the way, tragedies happened, and the recession forced me to change direction in my efforts, plans and goals.

Now, I haven’t given up on my study of wealth and financial independence, but I’ve decided to re-focus.  I’ve come to the conclusion that the road to wealth is best traveled with friends, so instead of focusing on my own road to wealth, I think I will focus on making all of you wealthy or at least financially independent.

Together we will explore how other people are successfully working from home, building businesses, producing passive income and gaining financial stability.

There are so many topics I want to explore, I would like to explore these topics for you and hopefully assist you in your success (and perhaps mine too).

Did you know that AAA has Remote Worker Positions?

Okay, so I have a list of local businesses that I check frequently for new jobs.  One of those companies is AAA.  I'm looking at the job listing and found that they have a number of opportunities with the notation "Remote Worker" beside it in the "Location" column.  I ran over here to Telecommuting Millionaire Blog to let you guys know that there is yet another opportunity to work from home and still be gainfully employed.  I LOVE the fact that this is becoming so common place now!

Tele-jobs: Kelly Services (Temp Agency Help!)

I'm sure you have not realized that even TEMPORARY AGENCIES are now listing telecommuting/work at home jobs!  I found a few at Kelly Services. Simply click on this link and you should land on their Advanced Job Search webpage.  In the Location box, click on Home-based/Telecommute and you will then have a list of jobs that are available.  These are temporary positions and you will have to enroll with Kelly Services. Nice!

Why I Won't Apply for Your Job . . . A snippy response (but a good one)

Oh my goodness!  I love this post.  It's written in response to an article entitled "Why I Won't Hire You".  And it is brilliant! Tim Gray you are quite the man for this one.  I hope and wish that employers will read this very truthful, very helpful article.

WHY I WONT APPLY FOR YOUR JOB..

1 - Require me to fill out your company's "application" that simply repeats all the information that is on my resume. Why are you showing me that your company is more interested in busywork than skills? You will never even look at the "application", it is a waste of everyone's time.

2 - Require yet another login to post my resume to your company's website. your company is not special, why are you cluttering up your own servers with the silly logins for people that will never be used again? Hire some competent IT people and design a resume submission system that does not require a un-needed login for them to have to remember. The best one I have seen emailed the submitter a pincode and allowed them to login with their email and pincode if they ever needed to update the resume.

3 - Post ridiculous requirements. 30+ years in java, astronaut that has been in space 10 times, has god's cellphone number. If you are letting the idiots in HR write the job description at least take some time from golf or your fantasy football to proofread the job position. It just makes you look like a very uneducated manager, a big red flag for the real professionals.

4 -Do not post a salary range. You want me to waste my time to find out you are paying 30% under industry average? Be honest and post the salary range so you get real professionals that don't want to waste our time to apply.

The above are the reasons that most companies get 5000 resumes or more for a single position that are not what they are looking for. Mostly because the hiring manager is incompetent at writing a proper job posting. The HR department think they are godlike. And everyone thinks their company is so good they don't have to give any real information about the position.

Want a better list of hires to choose from? Do the above and look like a respectable company to work for.

Honestly, if you want top notch professionals, you have to look good enough for us to apply.

Back to Life, Back to Reality

Hello, everyone!  It is 2012 and I've come back to continue helping you with your dreams of "working from home" or telecommuting . . . becoming wealthy (becoming a millionaire) . . . or just realizing your dreams whatever they may be.  Yes, it's been awhile but I never gave up on my goals and dreams.  Life and all its issues just interrupted my efforts for a moment.  Ready?  Let's go!

Resiliency

THIS is what I love about having the internet (specifically Youtube) and other resources at the tips of my finger. When I need motivations. When I need words of encouragement. When I need just a little bit of "positive" to get be over . . . I can find it. Thank you Mr. Thomas.

What happened?

It's been awhile and there is good reason why . . .

So many things have happened -- have changed in my life. In late 2008, I found out that my older sister was fighting cancer. It was a shock to all of us. You have no idea what a terminal illness does to a family. It nearly destroyed her marriage, and it totally changed my sister and her husband's working life . . . so much so that she ended up living with me until her death in the September 2009.

Immediately, my goals had to change. That's what happens you know . . . LIFE. Between taking care of my sister, dealing with marital issues wrapped in grief and poignant goodbyes, keeping home life as "normal as possible" for my children and my family's shifting financial needs -- my plans for financial freedom had to be put aside.

Six months before her death, the house we were renting (which fit my family perfectly even with my sister and her husband living with us -- went up for sale. She was in no condition to move and we could not purchase a house big enough for all of us with only my husband's salary. Because you see, due to the housing bubble popping and the banking industry making the rules on lending nearly ridiculous (after their crazy credit party of the years previously) - the money I made from my contract work meant nothing. They wanted to see W-2's to even consider lending to us.

I had to quickly find a W-2 job.

By the great kindness of my landlord -- they offered us first dibs on the house. And the fact that the Lord truly provides -- because soon after that, I found a job with a salary that was large enough to purchase the house. We began the process of purchasing the house we were living in. It was a short-sale. So there was a lot of "hurry up and find financial documentation and send it to us now" and then wait . . . and wait.

By the end of September 2009 there were . . . funeral arrangements, a 9 to 5 job schedule, kids beginning school, and many other things in life that one has to adjust to . . . and I did it all in a numb kind of limbo. And ironically, two days after I buried my sister, we signed the documents to the house. After six months, the short sale finally went through. I had made a step toward one of my goals . . . and I didn't care.

During the time of my sister's sickness, I was often angry and frustrated. There was so much I could have done if I had the "financial freedom" that I had been previously fighting for. She could have had better health care, an easier time of it. I would have been able to care for her more than get a "job" and be absent 9-10 hours a day to make sure there was a roof over everyone's head. I could have afforded the best nurses and day-care providers to make her life much more comfortable. We may have been able to afford some type of "new treatment" that would have extended her life or maybe cured her. All this could have happened if I would have tried for and succeeded in gaining financial freedom sooner. Why did I wait?

LIFE. Because life keeps happening to me. And I end up doing what everyone else does. Set aside my goals to handle the problems of life, instead of making plans to continue my goals around life. Making those contingencies that will help me take the steps toward my goal, even when life happens.

It's been almost a year since my sister's death, a year into owning my new home, over a year since I began my new job . . . and I'm looking around, feeling uncomfortable, still feeling frustrated and angry. My restlessness has helped me realize that I'm ready to take on my challenge again. It's time to make things better. To add value to life.

So, if you don't mind. Let's continue this journey. Pull up your belts and tie your shoes . . . I'm ready to get back on the "wild ride" to financial freedom. Let's go.
