Telejobs: Airlines and Cruises - Transportation

Okay, okay . . . I get the picture.  One of my most popular blog posts is the telecommuting job listing for American Airlines.  I get it.  You guys like work-at-home jobs that are connected to transportation agencies.  So, I decided to create the jackpot of all blog posts.  I'm going to list all the transportation agencies that allow telecommuting/teleworking.  How's that?  Yes, yes, I know I'm awesome.  What else is new?

Airlines

American Airlines - Home Based Airline Representatives
Search their job listing and they often have positions described as "home based".  However, these jobs go fast so keep going back and apply quickly because they are definitely here today and gone tomorrow.

Jet Blue -- Airline Reservations
Lots of open positions two or three months before the winter holidays, bilingual skills are always needed.

United Airline -- Click on the Reservations Option.  The jobs you are looking for is titled: Remote Reservation Agents  -- if you speak another language like German and Dutch you are a shoe-in.

Cruises

Norwegian Cruise Line -- Go to Advance Search and click REMOTE in the location book.

Princess Cruise Line -- look for "Reservation Sales Agent" and "Reservation Support Agent" These positions are eligible for telecommuting after 6 months.

If I find more companies that have telecommuting/home-based job options, I'll update this posting.  Check back soon.

Let's revisit the REDC Auction/Foreclosure Issue: Is it still a scam?

So, I noticed the remaining interest in the topic of REDC Real Estate Auctions since my last blog post about this topic.  For those of you who don't know, REDC is the company that runs Auction.com.  I read the fine print on how they ran their auctions several years ago.  My thoughts on their services are here in my article: REDC Foreclosures almost got me!

Okay, so after 3 years of auctions and people complaining about how REDC conducts their auctions, there have been new developments.  It seems that REDC has expanded and in 2012 they introduced Short Sales and Luxury Homes within their offerings.  They also introduced auctions that you can participate in solely online so you do not have to go to the live event.

I think it became clear from my article that this auction event is a marketing gimmick for the largest banks in the country to unload the immense inventory from the housing bubble that turned into the housing crisis.  Now, notice I said it was a "marketing gimmick or the big banks."  I have realized through several accounts of people who have successfully purchased property through REDC and Auction.com, that this whole scheme was a way for big banks to take out the commission they would have to pay Real Estate Brokers and Agents.

Let me explain.  In the past, when large amounts of houses were foreclosed upon, there was an old REO System where the bank would now "own" the house and they would commission a Real Estate Agency to sell the properties.  With each sell of a property, the bank then owed the Real Estate Agency a commission. But as you will see later in this article, REDC and their infamous "auctions" are trying to do away with those pesky commission to Real Estate Agents/Brokers -- and keep all that money for themselves.

I completely realized this when I read a great account of a Real Estate Agent that helped clients successfully navigate through the confusing steps and regulations of a REDC auction. Her full account of the situation is outline on her blog Cyndi Mino's Real Estate and Happenings in Huntington Beach.

But when I read this in one of her posts:

Oh, and yes, I did get some commission out of this whole thing – a whopping 1%, but wait, I didn’t actually get the 1% because of some stupid fees that the auction company kept and then my broker gets his split.  Yes, we agents do not get to keep all this commission that you think we all get.  We have to split it with both agents and then both of our brokerages get their splits too – Whoo hoooo,  by the time I get my check, I might be able to pay my cell phone and gas bill for all the expenses run up from this sale.

I realized what the big banks were doing. Do you see it yet?

You see, the new advice going around on the Internet is that these auctions are totally doable for the average person if they have some help from knowledgeable people with real estate experience -- in other words . . . real estate agents.  It seems that people that have that type of expertise on their side (Real Estate Agent as Consultant) have a better experience with REDC Auctions.

It's a curious thing.  In the traditional REO selling environment the Real Estate Agent was paid by the big bank wanting to get rid of its property quickly and for the best possible price.  In this new real estate process or scenario, the Real Estate Agent is commissioned by the buyer and gets whatever is left over as commission . . . in my estimate the 1% that Cyndi Mino talked about.

This is an interesting development don't you think?

So, it seems that these auctions can be successfully won, with a little professional help. And that professional help gets paid "chump change" for all their hard work, when in the past they would have been paid well for their expertise.

My only question is:  Did you think we were stupid REDC and won't figure out what you are doing?

Yet another unfair process by the big banks. It feels like the burden of everything now is on the "average guy."  What do you think, my family?

Remote Worker vs. Telecommuter vs. Work from Anywhere

"My friend over at Twitter @PSPeralta asked a question that I thought was very interesting.

What is the difference between a Telecommuting and a Work Anywhere job?

It was at that moment that I realized that most people don't know what "telecommuting" technically means, so I thought I'd clarify it.  Now, understand that many people (employers) interchange these terms because they don't know what it means really.  But in searching for a job, I think people should have some idea of what they are searching for.  Let's examine the terms.

Remote Worker = technically, a remote worker is a person that is set up to work in a "satellite office." This is an office that is equipped by the employer that is farther away from the headquarters or branch offices.  A remote worker comes into an office that is basically set up as a "mini" office.  They are sometimes required to travel to the main office for meetings (but not very often).  Notice that their office set up may be very close to their home, but not in their home and the employer is responsible for all equipment, connectivity and space.  People working in the "field" can also be called remote workers.

Telecommuter = technically, this is a person that has an office set up at home and generally works from home anywhere from one day a week to five times a week.  A telecommuter is often required to come into the office for meetings regularly.  They can work from anywhere with trusty laptops and smart phones.  However, they do have a set up where they keep files, equipment, etc. in their home. In this case, the employer has no control over the space used to work and sometimes require the telecommuter to use their own equipment.

Work Anywhere Jobs = these are quite often freelance jobs.  These are jobs that don't require a stationary set-up, an office set up to be created by the employer or employee.  These jobs can be done literarlly from anywhere . . . on a mountain top, at Starbucks, at home, at school, etc.

Of course, the lines that constitute the differences to these terms have large grey areas between them -- meaning, they can blend into each other quick easily.  But I thought that this should bring some clarity to the topic.

Did I miss anything?  Let me know in the comments section below.

Does size matter?

Bigger Type? You decide.

I don't know if you noticed but my most recent post was in bigger type.  I was wondering if my readers would like me to continue producing posts in a bigger type face.  Is it okay?  Is it easier to read?  Let me know in the comments section below.  If I get over 20 requests for larger type in the next week, then I will go back and update all my posts to larger type.

Sincerely,
Telemill

Earn Quick Money: Create A Unique Experience

What if someone was willing to pay you for a unique experience or a special tour of your area? That’s what exactly happened in a movie I watched called New Year’s Eve, the Movie.

It’s a movie that has a whole bunch of stars in it.  One part of the movie featured Michelle Pfeiffeir and Zac Efron  -- the premise of their story lends right into our Earn Quick Money Scheme of the Day.
So, here’s the lowdown,  Zac is a bike messenger and Michelle is an office manager, she rented him out for the day and asked him to make every item on her "Resolutions List" come true.  I have a videoclip, of the scene here.

Okay, so on her “Resolutions List” were several things:

  •       Walk all five of New York's Boroughs in one day
  •       Visit Bali
  •       Breakfast at Tiffany's
  •       Save a Life
  •      Take a New York taxi ride with no traffic
  •      Trip around the world
  •    (Among other things)

And being the creative soul that he is, these were Zac Efron's solution to her requests:

2.  Took her to Bali Garden Spa where she got a wonderful massage.  It was a spa that looked exactly like Bali.  Unfortunately, the spa was a film set that filmmaker Gary Marshall created, several people have tried to find the spa in New York with no success. Because it never existed, but it looked damned good on film!

3. Had coffee and donuts right outside of Tiffany's in New York.  Side note from Telemill: I would have one up'ed  his solutions and had a little cafe style chairs and table outside the store with one of my friends serving coffee and donuts.

4.  Took her to Adopt-a-Pet center and they picked out a little brown and black puppy - and saved it's little life.

5.  Took her on a water taxi ride on a cold day

6.  Rode his scooter around a giant glob statue.

Pretty inventive and pretty cute huh?

Can YOU think of inventive ways to show someone around your town?
Do you know of little known museums and attractions that the normal tourist or tourist guide has no clue of?
Can you make a person's wish list come true in an inventive way?

Yeah?  You think so?  Then YOU, my dear, can create unique experiences for people in your local area and make money doing it.

It’s really a simple thing to do, I did it once.  A few years ago,  I created a special tour for my aunts in Napa Valley that I could quite easily transfer to a “Unqiue Experience Tour”.  You see, I live very close to Napa Valley and my aunts and my female cousins, though also living close to Napa, never took any wine tours because . . . they don’t like wine.

But they DO like “Sparkling Wine” -- the equivalent to France’s Champagne.  So I found the five, count them 5, wineries that produced Sparkling Wines and created a “route” that would allow us to tour each in a day.  We rented a limousine, so we could drink freely without worrying about driving home after imbibing.  I packed a really nice picnic lunch (table cloth, champagne glasses, candles, etc.) and found a really nice outdoor picnic area that (when we got there we discovered) had a live quartet playing beautiful music!

Before the tour, I made sure to create really nice Itinerary Folders that gave the history of each winery we were going to visit and tour.  And then as we toured each winery, I wrote down which bottle of bubbly each woman said she especially liked.  On the drive back home, I presented each of my guests with the wonderful gift of a bottle of their new favorite Sparkling Wine.  We had a wonderful time and when they went back home to tell their friends, they realized that they had a tour that NO ONE else had ever experienced in Napa Valley.

Me and my family on our Special Sparkling Wine Tour

Using the companies below, I could easily recreate this tour for people coming to the San Francisco Area and Napa Valley who wants to experience a UNIQUE tour that no one else has experienced.  I am seriously considering recreating this tour and offering it to make extra money.  I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Check out these companies that allow you to be a Unique Tour Guide to a Unique Experience only YOU can provide:

Vayable

Hip Host

Shiuobe

SnappyGo

Tours by Locals

Make sure to read all the requirements and terms of service agreements before signing on any dotted line.  This really sounds like a fun job.  I’m very interested in some of the ideas that you guys can come up with to create a unique tour.  If you don’t mind, share your ideas in the comments section below.

What's even cooler is that the Hilton has Work at Home Positions.  Usually titled Reservation Sales Specialists and Customer Care Coordinators.

It's a Numbers Game, Rejection is Your Friend

Seriously, rejection doesn't mean you are not good enough; it simply means that other people failed to realized what you have to offer.  Let's look at some people who have supposedly FAILED in the past:

Beetohoven was told by his music teacher "as a composer, he is hopeless."

Oprah Winfrey was demoted from her news anchor job because "she wasn't fit for television."

Steven Speilberg applied and was denied entrance to University of Southern California film school . . . TWICE.  Instead he went to California State University Long Beach.

Albert Einstein couldn't speak until he was 4 years old and his teachers said he would "never amount to much."

Vice-President Dick Cheney flunked out of Yale University . . . TWICE!

Eminem is a high school dropout who unsuccessfully attempted suicide.

Stephen King's first book CARRIE received 30 rejections and he threw it in the trash.  His wife fished it out of the trash and encouraged him to resubmit it.

Steve Jobs, co-founder of both Apple Inc. and Pixar Animation Studios, was fired from the company he started.

One of our most famous US Presidents, Abraham Lincoln failed in business, had a nervous breakdown and lost 8 elections before becoming the 16th President of the United States.

Marilyn Monroe was told by a producer early in her career that she was "unattractive" and could not act.

The Beatles was rejected by a major recording studio who said "They have no future in show business."

Thomas Edison was told by his teacher he was, "too stupid to learn anything."

Last but not least, Colonel Sanders, founder of KFC started pursuing his dream at 65 years old.  Do you know how many rejections (people who said "NO") he received before getting a "Yes?"  One thousand and nine (1009)!

Which proves my theory about most experts.  They just don't know what the hell they are talking about! You are on this earth to show the EXPERTS something new.  Now, go out and get your 100 no's today!

Quick Money Tip: Put VISA/AMEX Gift Into Your Bank Account

I simply love quick and easy money tips!  I plan on giving you guys these types of tips whenever I find them.  They are never planned so I can never schedule them.  They just pop up.  I can't help myself and I have to share them with you guys.  So keep your eyes open for these.

Today, my Telecommuting Millionaire?'s Quick Money Tip involves 3 things:  (1) VISA/AMEX Gift Cards, (2) free Square Credit Card Reader and (3)an iPhone, Adroid, or iPAD.

If you ever get an Amex or Visa gift card (as me and my kids often do) and you look at the card and think, I could use this as cash.  You can actually put the majority of that gift card value into your bank account.  To do this you have to have a free Square Credit Card reader.  Run your gift card through your credit card reader and the value of the card - minus the transaction fee (for the Square, that's 2.75%) will be in your bank account in a couple of days!

Isn't that cool? I thought so too, that's why I just had to share.

UPDATE:  One of my friends gave me an additional money making tip.  She enters contests that offer VISA and AMEX Gift cards as prizes.  She enters these small contests/sweepstakes and with my advice given above, she has recently put $550 in her bank account!  She loves entering contests with VISA and AMEX gift cards as prizes because they are small contests and she has better chances of winning these.  And now that she knows my little Credit Card Reader secret, it's even better!

To find sweepstakes Google: "Visa Gift Card" or "AMEX Gift Card" and "sweepstakes" or "contes."
Have fun!
